Operation Smoke Detector continues! This time Firefighters For Sacramento City joined forces with Sacramento City Council Member Lauren Hammond, the Sacramento City Neighborhood Services Department and La Familia Counseling Center to take the Operation to the South City Farms community.
Once again the day consisted of knocking on doors seeking, residents who were interested in the removal and replacement of non-working smoke detectors or the installation of new detectors in their homes. Free batteries were also on hand for smoke detectors that were found lacking them.
Firefighters took some time to educate South City Farms residents on the basics of fire safety including maintaining working smoke detectors, having an escape plan and designating a meeting place for the whole family in case of a fire.
Afterwards participants enjoyed a BBQ and a visit from a Fire Engine.
